Biomass is an organic, renewable energy source that plays an essential role within Multiple Energy Systems (MES). It can be derived from agricultural residues, wood chips, dedicated energy crops, and other organic wastes. In MES, biomass is often used in combined heat and power (CHP) systems or converted through gasification and anaerobic digestion to produce renewable heat and electricity, thereby diversifying the energy mix and enhancing overall system resilience.
